We had a great training session today. Under the guidance and support of GVP Gary Allen, the DL 725 staff will begin rolling out this training to our stewards. This training is an invaluable resource to any steward. We look forward to seeing all of our stewards at one of the training sessions! ...
GVP Allen was on hand to give opening remarks at a training seminar held at District Lodge 725 for DL 725 and DL 947 Business Reps. GVP Allen spoke about the call for our reps to be the standard bearers of the Fighting Machinists, the importance of mentorship on the shop floor, and the importance of building leaders through GPS II.
The Western Territory went on a roll when it comes to organizing this past week. GVP Allen is very appreciative of the organizing activity underway in the Western Territory and the hard work of all the organizing committees territory-wide. “This has been another exciting week for our Territory and the IAM, but more importantly for those workers who stood up to their employer and said enough is enough; we want a voice in our future with this company.” -GVP Allen on the on-going wave of organizing activity in the Western Territory.
From DL 751 PDBR Jon Holden and Organizing Leader Jesse Cote:
Yesterday IAM&AW 751 organizing team entered into a stipulation with Cadence Giddens on the determinative ballots of the May 14th and 15th election results. The unit is 224 the vote count is 104 for IAM Union yes, 81 no and 5 challenged ballots. This was a very hostile anti-union campaign by the Employer and high paid consultants! We used the new rules at the NLRB to our advantage. The cell phone list and the home email addresses were found invaluable to point them to our education website at: www.voteyesiam.com/cadence/
The Boeing Co. is a major customer for Cadence-Giddens, but parent company Cadence Aerospace also sells parts to Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman and Fokker, along with providing parts to other aerospace suppliers. Cadence Aerospace is based in Southern California, and operates seven plants across the United States and one in Mexico. Two of the facilities are here in Washington State and are both under the IAM banner.
This was a great victory because of the close team work between District 751, our Unionizing volunteers from the shop floor, District 160 and the Western Territory to help deliver this exciting win for
these newest IAM members.
Pres/DBR Holden said “I am very proud of our team effort here at District 751 and assistance from DBR Dan Morgan and BR Bobby Joe Murray, but the real hero’s in this are the workers at Giddens.”
From DL 160 DBR Dan Morgan:
The workers at Western Pneumatic Tube in Kirkland, WA voted unanimously for IAM representation.
From DL 725 PDBR Larry Olinger and BR/Organizer Kevin Lee:
On Wednesday 27 May, the L3 unit at Moffett Field in San Jose CA voted overwhelming to join District Lodge 725. The vote count was 13-1. The campaign was run by DL 725 Business Rep Kevin Lee and GLR Don Gresham. The workers ignored visits by Corporate HR and multiple love letters to their homes to send a strong message to L3: we want the IAM and we will not accept “business as usual”.
PDBR Olinger said “we are very excited for LL 2228, this is their first organizing victory in more than 10 years and the first of more to come”.
From GLR Steve Nickel:
We gained a recognition agreement for the AOC group from Creech AFB, Las Vegas. They are a support group for Battlespace. The size of the group is 7 which includes QC, production control, and Supply Techs.
